Yael Segev is an expressive artist who is inspired by Matisse, Apple, Miro, Klee and Corneille. Her paintings demonstrate an experimental combination of human figures, animals and objects, all symbols driven from the artist’s personal unique imagination. What is immediately striking about her paintings is the multitude of colors, which seem to divide the canvas like a jigsaw. It starts out as a quest for personal expression, and continues as the artist takes possession of her own pictorial language. The one who observes her works will be inclined to focus on the animal or the human figures, but the objects are not the main issue of her work. Her works are not based on philosophic or cultured ideas, and yet, the touch of tint indicates sensuous joyfulness, mischievousness, naivety, combined with happy humor, and optimism.
Yael thinks that a painting’s task is to please and to cheer the spectator; therefore, the “celebration of colors” should leave the observer with a sense of heartiness and harmony of happiness.
