“I grew up amongst the rolling, pastoral hills of Wisconsin. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in history and English, I moved to New York City. After four years of living in the city, I decided to move to upstate New York where I built a cabin in the Adirondack Park. I moved to this quiet spot to follow what became a Chinese apprenticeship for an artist. Such practice begins with the mastery of poetry and calligraphy before the real work of painting can begin.

“Now I live a Zen-influenced life of voluntary simplicity, creating paintings and sketches that reflect the quiet, meditative world that surrounds me. My main subject matter is figurative, especially the quiet, meditative world of women. My art tries to restore that part of ancient goddess culture that honored women for their sacred, life-giving, life-affirming powers. Powers associated with the moon and wild animals. Qualities associated with art and aesthetics, dance and music, singing, chanting and ecstatic states of being.”
