overview

Being a drummer and a painter, my rhythmic musical preferences influence the outcome of my paintings in a left / right brain, connective-tissue miracle.

Application of acrylic gel, clear tar gel and string gel are my ‘underpainting’; placement is intentional, designed and carefully contemplated.

Abstract art is an expression of non-realism to me, yet very real in the sense of the process, application and freedom in involvement of creating.

Looking at my paintings, color is equally paramount, however, I have no idea how the color will look until I’m finished... that’s a challenge in itself, when is it done?

My hope is that you will closely explore each painting to experience pleasure from the work in your own way, as I have freely created it.

about the artist

After a 30-year career as an art and creative director, I returned to painting in 2007. Wanting to combine attributes of design with texture and movement, I developed a process using acrylic gel and clear tar gel as my underpainting, sculpting and drawing with the gels, adding color later in the process.

My career in art started simply: paint by numbers, constant doodling, pastels, then exploring with paints and colors - which led to a Gold Key in the Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards Competition.

I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting. I also received a Certificate in Art History from the School of Fine Arts at Boston University.

While at Mass Art, I was asked to paint wall murals, which led to work with graphic design and architectural firms; painting wall murals for Nypro Inc., in Clinton, MA, and Sun Federal Savings Bank, in Biddeford, ME.

At this same time, mural competitions opened to students — one for the MBTA (the ‘T’), and the other for the Boston Common Underground Garage. My designs won First Prizes in both contests. The garage murals are no longer visible; the ‘T’ murals at Kenmore Square are.

Following the success of the contests, I was commissioned to design and paint murals for individuals and for the Charles River Apartment complex in Boston.

My paintings have recently been selected for 2011 and 2012 juried exhibitions at the 9th Annual Blanche Ames National Art Exhibition, Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, Danforth Museum of Art, Galatea Fine Arts Gallery, Akillian Gallery at Massasoit Community College and Chabot Fine Art Gallery. Recent exhibitions have been in Provincetown, MA; Portsmouth, NH; and Providence, RI.
